  • Where are the Make Way for Ducklings statues?

You'll find Boston's beloved Make Way for Ducklings statues in Boston Public Garden at the southwest corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. The bronze duck family is walking beside the path that leads from the corner towards the lagoon. Created in 1987 by artist Nancy Schön, this heart-warming depiction of Mrs. Mallard and her brood is the most popular sculpture in the city.
  • What is the history behind the swan boats?

    • Boat rowing was a favorite pastime during the Victorian era. Inspired by the bicycle (another popular Victorian amusement), boater Robert Paget helped to develop a new paddle wheel catamaran in the 1870s. To cover the captain, he suggested a swan. Paget's family still operates the Swan Boats today, the oldest of which was built in 1910. A ride on a Swan Boat is a quintessential Boston experience.
